Canoe & Kayak - Tubing - Fishing
What better way to explore the North Fork River than by canoe or kayak? Both are available for rent at DAWT MILL. Avid river runners and those just looking for a relaxing day are sure to find enjoyment.
The North Fork is a favorite river because it alternates between swift currents and quiet waters, perfect for fishing. The beauty of nature sets the scene, and if you watch carefully, you might catch a glimpse of wildlife including ducks, beavers, deer, otters and eagles.
To ensure your day is stress free, DAWT MILL staff will customize the length of your float and provide transportation. You will be dropped off upstream and leisurely float back to your vehicle or lodging at DAWT MILL – no hurrying to catch a shuttle.

You
begin your trip upriver from Dawt Mill, after a shuttle ride
on our Bus. Our staff even puts the canoe or kayak in the water
for you. |
Blair to Dawt Mill
This is the most
popular float. The shuttle to the Blair access is just 15
minutes away from Dawt. The river back to Dawt is 8 miles. The
time to complete this float can be from 5 to 7 hours depending
on the number of fun breaks you take. This trip is great for experiencing
the rapids, deep holes, and shallow sections of the river. It
is a fun but safe section of the river for families with young
first floaters, avid canoers, and kayackers. Don't forget your
fishing pole as this section is part of the Trophy
Trout area.
Patrick Bridge to
Dawt Mill
A shorter float
trip, approximately 3 - 5 hours, but with beautiful scenery. Be sure to stop at Althea spring before you get into the water
at Patrick Bridge. For a real thrill jump into the spring that
once powered a private electrical station. Another section of
the river that is home to Brown and Rainbow trout.
Hammond to Dawt Mill
Our longest float,
usually 9-11 hours. The shuttle for this float leaves at 8:00
am. Be sure to arrive the night before for a good nights rest.
Many of our guests use this as a two day float and camp at the
public campgrounds at Blair Bridge for the first night.
Stop and explore Blue
Spring just below the put in at Hammond. There is a foot path
around the spring. |

Check in
time prior to the bus departure is 30 minutes. Allow extra time
to order sandwiches, buy drinks, or to have breakfast in the Chuckwagon. |
Tubing
 |
On
the hottest summer days, you can enjoy a favorite local activity called Tubing. This pastime consists of
floating in inner tubes from tires. A "flotilla" is made when several
of the tubes are tied together to float merrily down the river. Often
a cargo ship is made by placing a cooler in the center of one tube.
This fun sport goes a lot slower than canoeing, so plan on extra time
on the river. Our most popular tube float is from Patrick to Dawt taking
about 4-6 hours. For those wanting a shorter trip we suggest James Bridge
to the Mill at about 1 1/2 to 3 hours. |
Fishing
 |
Explore
the Trophy trout stream of the North Fork River. The spring fed, limestone
bottomed river provides excellent opportunites for the avid fly fisherman.
German brown and Rainbows are sure to delight you as you float the beautiful
river valley. Fishing regulations do apply on different parts of the
river.
For those that do not wish
to float the river there is excellent fishing right above and below
the dam at the Mill. This area marks the beginning of Norfolk Lake and
home to a variety of fish including white bass, rock bass, suckers,
and bluegill.
